The Joy of COLOR

By | CMYKay

As women, we have a constant dialogue going on in our head. Sometimes that dialogue is positive and sometimes, it is just plain mean. This self-talk occurs hundreds of times a day, but what I have found is that it is most dangerous while standing in the closet, getting ready for the day ahead. Have you ever thought the following as you pick out your outfit for the day?

I feel blah today. I hope no one notices me.

I hope no one calls on me in this meeting. I definitely need to dress in something neutral so I don't stand out.

I am so fat. Thank goodness I have all those fat pants in black so people can't see how fat I am.

I’m not going to see anyone today but my children. Bring on the sweatpants.

I will be covered in spit up by noon. Why try?

I haven't slept in six months. If my shoes match each other I feel like I'm winning.

If your answer is never, then you are a liar. We tend to dress the way we feel without even realizing we are doing it. But what if I told you that there is another way?

Your story might sound a lot like mine. Before I got married and had kids, I took pride in every aspect of my appearance from my hair to my accessories. It was fun and I felt good. Then my husband walked into the picture. His presence alone didn’t change my attitude. I still enjoyed looking good and getting dressed up for date nights and dinners with friends. But then…kids happened.

Let me start by saying, stay-at-home moms with newborns are superwomen. Also, working moms are superwomen. I’ve been both. Not only do they raise a tiny human on little to no sleep but they also run a household—make lunches, grocery shop, take the kids to doctors appointments, do laundry, empty dishwashers, etc. I’m tired just thinking about it and I do it!

When my son was born, my body had been turned into a human feeding machine, and while there is a lot of beauty to be found there, it is also really freaking hard, and I lost the motivation to look resembling my pre-baby self.

As our son grew, the zombie haze began to clear, but I was still covered in spit up and baby food 90% of the day, so I thought to myself: Why try? Before I knew it, my son was 3 and I was still wearing the same bland clothes that I had pulled on when he was born because they were easy and functional. Then, I slowly began to discover the truth that changed my life. What I was wearing was creating a self fulfilling prophecy in my brain. I felt basic and blah. Have y’all met me!? I am NOT basic.

One day I woke up and I wanted to look good again. So I decided to dress my way back to who I really was. I put on makeup (hadn’t done that in a while!) and a comfortable, yet still stylish outfit, and something magical happened: I looked GOOD and I felt GOOD. I received countless compliments and realized that while I may still be exhausted on the inside, the outward expression from my outfit said otherwise. People started taking notice, commenting on my choice of bold colors and prints and how they made me stand out from the crowd. The more compliments I received, the better I felt about myself!

Now, color is my secret weapon to fight the negative self talk that abounds when I am standing in my closet feeling crummy in the morning. Whether I am feeling self conscious, anxious, or nervous I fight the urge to dress the way I am actually feeling and instead I pull out a bold color and dress the way I WANT to feel. My mood lifts, my day lifts and my joy lifts!!

If you are caught in the trap of wearing the same bland clothing day in and day out, I challenge you to add some color to your daily wardrobe. It doesn’t have to be a complete wardrobe makeover. You are busy! Start small with a couple bright accessories. My bet is you will begin to see what the joy of color can do for you.

Below, meet AlanaKay 2019. Wonder what AlanaKay all dressed in black from 2007 would think of her!?

AlanaKayART Badass Pleated Skirt

I am a believer in the power of color. I see it every day as an artist, a designer and my self-proclaimed role as color evangelist. I have seen color reconnect people to themselves and others, empower women, and inspire joy. CMYK is the abbreviation for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and blacK. Combining those four colors allows us to create any color. Bright, dark, bold, subtle, neutral, neon — all of them.

Over the past year, people continue to admire the bold colors and patterns used in AlanaKayART and tell me how great I look, but are concerned that they can’t pull off such vibrant colors.

Challenge accepted.

The goal of CMYKay is to educate you about color and empower you to incorporate it into your home and wardrobe in both big and small ways. It will challenge you creatively and encourage you to have fun with color in new and re-imagined ways, because friend, life in color is way more fun.

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

By | CMYKay

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12 and I wanted to share a few of my favorite things in a Mother’s Day Gift Guide. These are all gifts I would love to receive (hint hint!), but are also things that I think would make perfect gift for the most special women in our lives — our moms, mothers-in-law, sisters, aunts, honorary moms — the tribe of incredible women who have helped build us into who we are.

Self-care and goddess empowerment are two themes woven throughout my list. The longer I spend on this motherhood journey, the more I am convinced that these are two of the most important gifts we can give ourselves and our fellow moms.

FRENCH ROSÉ WINE & ALANAKAYART COCKTAIL GLASSES

A good bottle of wine in a beautiful glass is a fantastic gift. I love a nice bottle of French Rosé. With the summer heat around the corner, I see a lot of Rosé in my future. An AlanaKay Easter Setting

By | CMYKay

Femininity – Love – Friendship – Playfulness

Easter is this Sunday and the Latiolais household is ready to celebrate in a BIG way. I love this holiday for many reasons. Most importantly, it is a day that celebrates my Savior. That celebration combined with a bright season overflowing with flowers, family, and bright colors makes for one happy woman.

The colors of Easter all have symbolic meaning for the Christian Holiday.

  • Purple –  Associated with the Lenten season; sentiments of penitence, royalty and spiritual wealth.
  • Red  – Symbolizes the blood of Christ; stimulates emotions of unconditional love.
  • White – Symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus Christ; evokes emotions of purity and grace.
  • Green – Symbolizes rebirth and eternal life.
  • Pink – Symbolizes joyful new beginnings and hope.

As a lover of color of all kinds, I wanted to create a vibrant, joyful and bright Easter table for my family to enjoy using many of these colors and more. I also added an Easter Bunny or two! I finished my tablescape with the perfect bright pink cake. Easter is a perfect holiday to mix and match your colors. Variety is key for a vibrant and colorful table.

AN ALANAKAY EASTER

- Tablescape and Decorations -

I started my tablescape by placing my AlanaKayART chargers at each seat. While these are not for sale (yet!) you can use any bright colored charger to start–just be sure to use a variety of colors for your chargers. So much color, so little time!

This was a perfect occasion to use my gold rimmed china dinner plates. Classic china on top of colorful charges creates a beautiful effect. I used Art Pops at each place to add both dimension and color. Although they technically aren’t napkins, AlanaKayArt Wild Rags served as my “napkin placeholder” at the top left of each place setting. This brought a lot of color to the table using an item I already had in my home. Gold silverware complimented my gold china plates; however, silver would work equally as well.

CMYKay TIP: Use colorful scarves as napkin placeholders. Provide disposable or plain cloth napkins under each plate. Guests can place the scarves on the back of their chairs when they begin the meal.

AlanaKayART cocktail glasses finished each place setting. Adding colorful glasses allows you to serve beverages such as tea or water for your Holiday meal.

Chargers are a great starting place for any table. While these AlanaKayART chargers are not on sale (yet!), you can use any combination of bright colored chargers as a base for your tablescape.
If you are looking for a reason to pull out your good china, this is it! If you don’t have china, grab some inexpensive plain white plates to put on top of your chargers to achieve the same look.
I used ArtPops at each location as a symbolic place card. You could use Easter eggs for the same effect.
CMYKay TIP: Use colorful scarves as napkin placeholders. Provide disposable or plain cloth napkins below each plate. Want this exact look? Shop AlanaKayART Wild Rags.
Gold silverware and AlanaKayART cocktail glasses finish each setting. Even when not serving cocktails, I use festive glasses to serve water or tea.

I wanted to keep the center of the table festive, but not too tall, to ensure easy flow of conversation, so I utilized AlanaKayART cocktail glasses as flower vases and filled them with colorful and bright spring flowers.

A few Easter-themed knickknacks, including an Easter Bunny and a vase filled with dyed eggs, helped complete the theme. Lastly, I finished off my table by tying some AlanaKayART Over-sized scarves on the back of each chair.

What better way to end a great Easter meal with family and friends than with the brightest possible pink cake. Not only does it add color and vibrancy to your table, it also serves as the perfect centerpiece. If you missed last week’s CMYKay blog on how to make my “Pretty in Pink Cake” read and download the recipe here.

If you’re looking to re-create my AlanaKayART Easter tablescape, but you don’t have the products laying around, don’t worry! You can order them online through the links above or, if you are local to the DFW area, email me for local pickup.

Here’s to wishing a very happy, healthy and blessed Easter from my family to yours!

Pretty in Pink Cake

By | CMYKay

Femininity – Love – Friendship – Playfulness

Spring brings with it a bounty of color; the return of green grass, fields of yellow dandelions and bluebonnets, purple sunsets, pastel eggs – all making their appearance in nature, decor and fashion. This month I want to focus on pink. I realize pink can be a controversial color. Some women worry they can’t wear such a bright “look at me” kind of color and men have been told they can’t wear it at all. Millennials have all but adopted pink as the color of their generation with the addition of the term “Millennial Pink.” And you know what I’m going to say, pink is for everyone, no matter your age or gender.

I adore everything about pink. I love the versatility, brightness and playfulness in every shade of pink, which is why you will find it in a number of my paintings, including Badass, Counterbalance, and Nektar.

Pink provides the romantic feel of red, with less intensity. It’s playful and bright, but still subtle enough to make you pause and think about the emotion it’s conveying. It also has a wide range of shades which makes it extremely versatile both in art and fashion. Brighter pinks, like magenta, usher in feelings of creativity and friendship, while lighter “millennial pinks” are often associated with feelings of youth and femininity. And of course, pink is associated with spring, including one of my favorite spring holidays.

If you are still unsure about incorporating pink into your spring wardrobe, consider adding it to your Easter table.

Easter is an important holiday in our home and this year I wanted to create a dessert that serves as a beautiful and delicious centerpiece for our holiday table. As is the norm when I have a baking question, I enlisted my mom to help me create the brightest possible pink cake to celebrate a season that sparks brightness and joy in my life. For the perfect finishing touch, we iced the cake using a process similar to the one I use to pour resin on my paintings.

Even better? The recipe below is entirely gluten and dairy free thanks to King Arthur Gluten Free Cake Mix.

PRETTY IN PINK CAKE

- Gluten Free & Dairy Free -

For those of you who associate gluten and dairy free with tasteless and gross, let me reassure you. With a few simple substitutions, this cake is everything you could ever want.

Ingredients:

For the Cake
1 cup vegan butter (I used Earth Balance)
8 tablespoons vegetable oil
16 large eggs
2 1/2 cups dairy-free milk (I used coconut milk)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon almond extract
4 boxes King Arthur Gluten Free Cake Mix
2-3 different shades of pink food coloring

For the Icing
8 cups confectioners sugar
2 cups Crisco
4 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 teaspoons almond extract
6-8 tablespoons coconut milk

For the Glaze
2 tablespoons (3 packets) unflavored gelatin
1 3/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup dairy free sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 1/2 cups diary free white chocolate chips
2-3 different shades of pink food coloring

Step 1: Put on your Badass Earrings and Bake Your Cake

Place a rack in the center of the oven. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Lightly grease six 8″ round cake pans. (Yep, you heard me six. This cake feeds a crowd!) However, I recommend mixing one cake mix at a time and baking the pans three at a time.

Use an electric mixer to beat butter and oil together, then blend in half of the mix. Using the lowest speed, add eggs one at a time, mixing until blended. Continuing to use lowest speed, add 1/2 of the milk at a time, alternating with 1/2 of the dry mix. Mix just until smooth.

Now, for the fun part, drop in 1-2 drops of pink food coloring and combine. Scoop out enough to fill one pan and spread evenly.

Drop 1-2 drops more of food coloring into your mixer and combine until slightly darker than your first pan. Scoop out enough to fill your second pan and spread evenly.

Repeat until you have filed all six pans with varying shades of pink from light to dark.

Bake the cakes until golden brown — 28-32 minutes. The center of the cake should feel firm when gently pressed, and a toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.

Remove the cakes from the oven. Allow them to cool completely in the pan, then loosen the edges with a knife and gently remove from the pan.

Recipe adapted from King Arthur

Step 2: Make Your Icing & Ice Your Cake

In a large mixing bowl, using an electric hand mixer on low speed, cream the powdered sugar with the crisco adjusting the speed up to high once the powdered sugar is incorporated into the margarine.

Add the vanilla extract, almond extract while slowly adding in your coconut milk and continue to mix on high speed until frosting holds stiff peaks.

Store in a covered dish or container in the refrigerator until ready to use when you cakes have cooled.

Once your cakes have cooled, you are ready to start icing them! Start with your lightest shade of pink ice the top and add the next shade. Repeat until you finish your six layers. Then, ice the entire outside until smooth.

Step 3: Embrace Your Inner AlanaKay and Glaze Your Cake

Stir gelatin and 1/2 cup lukewarm water in a small bowl and let sit 5 minutes.

Cook sugar, dairy-free condensed milk, vanilla, salt, and 3/4 cup water in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture begins to bubble, about 4 minutes. Add bloomed gelatin and stir until dissolved.

Remove from heat and add dairy-free chocolate chips, stirring constantly, until melted. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a large bowl, let cool, then divide glaze among 3 or 4 glasses. Color each with pink food coloring as desired of varying shades of pink.

Set a chilled, smoothly frosted cake on a cake pan or overturned bowl set inside a rimmed baking sheet or large tray to catch drips. Pour colored glaze over, sweeping back and forth across cake as you pour, to form a marbled pattern. Resist the temptation to touch glaze once it’s poured; it will start to set as soon as it hits the cold cake. Let glaze drip about 10 minutes, then clean up edges with a small offset spatula or butter knife.

For an added dose of fun, call in your kiddo to help catch the drips. A little sugar rush never hurt anyone right?

Recipe adapted from Epicurious.

Step 4: Slice and Serve

Once you have let your glaze set, transfer to a cake stand and set out on display at your Easter table.

Slice and enjoy every bite of your fabulously pink cake with family and friends this Spring.

Date Night Two Ways

By | CMYKay

Growth – Harmony – Freshness – Fertility

Date nights are my love language. Whether you have been together ten days, ten years or are pushing toward your golden anniversary, making time for each other is a key factor in a healthy relationship. My husband and I thoroughly enjoy any chance we get to leave the house for an evening, whether that means trying out a new restaurant here in Funkytown or attending a concert in Dallas. Of course one of my favorite parts of date night is dressing up for the occasion.

Just because you’ve found the love of your life doesn’t mean your date night outfit has to be boring (I’m talking to both the men and women here). Sure, your little black dress is reliable and flattering (okay, that’s aimed towards the ladies), but instead of sticking to reliable, I want to challenge you to show off your creativity and dress how you feel. Do you feel monotone and dark when you go on a date with your significant other? I hope not! You feel joy and excitement.

Green is a perfect spring date night color because it stimulates feelings of growth, harmony, freshness and fertility. Brighter and more vibrant shades of green bring energy to the table, making it an excellent choice for those upbeat, off the beaten path date nights like taking a salsa class, mastering an escape room, or singing a duet of “I got you babe” at a karaoke bar.

So, what are you waiting for? Check out these date night looks and start planning.

DATE NIGHT

- Dinner Downtown -

Did you say drinks at Reata rooftop? Yes please. Pair my AlanaKayART Viridescent Skirt with a dainty silk camisole and some fabulous shoes. Accessorize with your favorite pair of lightweight acrylic earrings, like this brand new Bloom style from AlanaKayART, and add a piece of elegant Mustard Seed Jewelry. Finish your look with an animal print clutch to add just the right amount of the unexpected.

The movement and colors of this Viridescent skirt shout spring. Pair it with a silk camisole for a delicate and ultra-feminine look.
For this look, I chose to match my statement earrings with the same color palette (Viridescent Bloom), but a bright pink contrast would also look fantastic.
Break out your date night shoes for this look…you know those ones you bought last season but never wore because you never had the occasion? Date night is that occasion. These bright pink heels are just the right touch of unexpected.
Accessorize with dainty jewelry like these long drops from Mustard Seed Jewelry. Lastly, don’t forget to pair with a fabulous clutch. I am currently loving animal print pairings.

DATE NIGHT

- The Stockyards -

I grew up on a farm in Clifton, TX, so my boots and hat were more necessity that accessory. Now that I’m a city girl, my boots may not be my everyday wear, but the great thing about living in Texas, specifically a city nicknamed Cowtown, is that boots and cowboy hats are always in style.

For a more casual date night look, or a date night in the Fort Worth Stockyards, pair my Viridescent Skirt with a white t-shirt and some glitter or fringe boots. Add a pair of statement earrings, I’m wearing AlanaKayART Bloom earrings here, and cap it off with a fashionable Cowboy Hat…pun intended.

A pleated skirt is a great look for dinner, drinks, or dancing. It offers the perfect amount of swoosh and the one I’m wearing has pockets! Yes, pockets!
Statement earrings are an easy way to add a bold pop of color to any look. My Bloom earrings are lightweight acrylic and are all based on original AlanaKayART paintings.
Boots…non-negotiable. If you are doing date night in the Stockyards, boots are a must! For a fun twist on the traditional boots, try a pair with glitter or fringe.
Another item on the non-negotiable list for a Stockyards date night is a hat! This gorgeous felt green hat paired perfectly with my outfit, but a tan or black hat would pair just as well.

Now that the hard part is planned for you (your outfit), start planning your date night! Whether you are going out for a romantic dinner at a five-star restaurant or heading to a concert this weekend, I’ve got you covered with two outfit ideas that are sure to show off the energy and freshness you feel wearing green!

I am a believer in the power of color. I see it every day as an artist, a designer and my self-proclaimed role as color evangelist. A Different Way to St. Paddy’s Day

By | CMYKay

Growth – Harmony – Freshness – Fertility

St. Patrick’s Day is Sunday, March 17 and you know I will be celebrating with all things GREEN! The ties between St. Patrick’s Day and the color green go way back, but did you know that the original color synonymous with St. Patrick’s day was blue? Yes, you read that right. In early paintings, St. Patrick is shown wearing the official color of the Order of St. Patrick: blue.

It wasn’t until the 20th century that the holiday became associated with the color green for religious and national reasons. Ireland’s nickname is The Emerald Isle, the green stripe in the Irish flag represents the Catholics of Ireland and of course those fabled Leprechauns ran around wearing green from head to toe.

While I love blue, I just can’t imagine celebrating this Holiday with any color other than green! This year, I am taking it to the next level and glamming up with green makeup. This look is perfect for your St. Patrick’s Day parade or even a fun date night. Read the tutorial below to recreate my look.

A DIFFERENT WAY TO ST. PADDY’S DAY

-Let Your Eyes Do The Talking-

While I believe you can wear fun makeup any time of the year, St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect excuse to try out a fun green look. Thanks to my friend Halley Hamer with House of Tesla Hair and Makeup, I was able to sport this look just in time for the Holiday AND manage to go out to dinner with my family after and get lots of stares. I just see it as the highest form of flattery. 😉

Start with no foundation! It is best to begin your canvas clean moisturized skin.
With any bright colored shadow, you’re going to want to apply Shadow Shields. They catch any fallout from your shadow application and keep your under eye area bright.
Swirl your brush in the lime green shade of your Take Me To Brazil Shadow Palette and tap off excess shadow. Then, take the brush to the outer corner of your eyelid and pat the shadow on moving it inward. Cover the entire lid and lash line with the remaining product on the brush and blend. Blending will be our best friend!

You’re going to want these shadow shields as you apply this bright look. Not only will they keep any fallout from happening, they will also keep your under eyes looking bright and fresh! This entire eye look was created with six products: Tarte Shape Tape ConcealerTake Me to Brazil Shadow Palette, J. Cat Beauty Glitter in Poppin’ LimeNYX Lime Green Eyeliner, MAC Three Rings Eyeshadow and Ardell Lashes.

Take this lime green shade up pretty high towards the brow bone. You want the colors to be seen when your eye is fully open, so be sure to check what your shadow looks like with your eyes opened looking straight forward. When you are all done, apply MAC Three Rings eyeshadow just under the brow to make your brow line pop.
Add the mid lime green shade to the corner and in the crease to add definition to the eye shape and go back and forth blending the two shades. Then, take the light lime green shade and blend the shadow up into the brow bone. To deepen the look, swirl the brush in the matte dark green shade, tap off excess, start in the outer corner of the eye and pat it into the crease, do this multiple times until you achieve the eye look you are going for.
To ensure that you can see the colors and the gradient effect open your eye, take your brush and blend shadow above the crease while the eye is opened. Finally, cut the crease Tarte Tape Shape Concealer apply to the inside of the eyelid, then use NYX glitter primer and apply your J. Cat Beauty glitter in Poppin’ Lime. Then, apply your base layer of mascara and remove your Shadow Shields.

After you have completed the shadow parts of your eye, apply your Shape Tape Concealer,  J. Cat Beauty Glitter in Poppin’ LimeNYX Lime Green Eyeliner and Ardell Lashes. Make sure you apply mascara to your natural lash before you apply your lashes.

Contour your face with Anastasia of Beverly Hills Contour Palette at the top of your hairline and just below your cheek bones as well as you jaw bone. Then, highlight with WetNWild Precious Petals anywhere the light hits (forehead, nose and chin). Add MAC Bright Pink Blush to your cheek bones and blend.
Complete your look with the perfect pink lip by using Bite Beauty Neon Fuschia lip color.
Finally, set your face with Urban Decay All Nighter to make it last all day and night long!

The rest of your look is all about contouring and highlighting. After you have finished your eyes and applied lashes, clean up and apply foundation of your choice. Then contour with your Anastasia of Beverley Hills Contour Palette and highlight with WetNWild Precious Petals. Then apply your MAC Bright pink blush and finish with the perfect pink lip by using Bite Beauty Neon Fuschia lipstick. I set my look with Urban Decay All Nighter as well to make it last.

Blue Up Your Athleisure

Tranquility – Loyalty – Creativity – Stability – Trust

My story probably sounds a lot like yours. I’m a working mom and wife whose life dissolves into chaos more often than not. In the midst of that chaos I carve out an hour a day to do Pilates. This hour is sometimes the only thing that offers me a dose of sanity. For a long time I wore black leggings to my workouts and even though I was working hard, I felt uninspired. I wanted what I was wearing to reflect the power, energy, and joy I was feeling. So I started wearing bright colored leggings and I found that changing what I wore to work out changed my feelings while working out.
If you’ve never been one to add color to your athleisure wear, blue is a perfect entry color. It is only a few steps from black on the color wheel, so you won’t feel too far out of your comfort zone, but it will still provide you with a newfound sense of authority, creativity, and calm. Here are a few tips to pull together the perfect look.

BLUE IN FASHION

- Blue Up Your Winter Athleisure -

If you are like I was and you’re still wearing black to your morning Pilates classes but you’re terrified of making that bold of a statement, start with baby steps.

Pair a blue sports bra with your black leggings and throw on a neutral color tank. Once you gain comfort with that step, add some blue leggings or blue shoes and work your way up from there. You’ll soon see what I saw…the more color you wear, the more powerful and calm you feel not only in your workout but in your life.

Afraid of wearing color entirely? Try bringing a blue accessory like a mat or water bottle with you to class. Surrounding yourself with this color will take your workouts, and your day, up a notch.

AlanaKayART Ride the Wave leggings are the perfect way to share the power, energy and joy you feel during a kick butt workout.
Pair bold patterned leggings with a neutral colored jacket like this Patagonia puffer jacket. Warm, stylish and comfortable.
Throw on a pair of athleisure shoes for a sporty look as you leave class for your weekly Target run.
Statement earrings are a small but mighty way to incorporate a new color into your wardrobe. These AlanaKayART Back to the Well acrylic earrings elevate any look to Insta worthy.

Pair a bright blue legging like these AlanaKayART Ride the Wave Leggings  with a neutral top to add balance to your outfit. Throw on some stylish athleisure tennis shoes like these from Target and complete your look with the unexpected…AlanaKayART Back to the Well Earrings.

Life in Color is way more fun!

The groundhog saw his shadow, but for some reason Mother Nature didn’t get the memo that we should be getting ready for SPRING already. So, instead of waiting on spring sunshine and warmth, I suggest we bring spring to this dreary weather. Throw a bright colored coat, like this one from JCrew, over your Ride the Wave leggings, add an AlanaKayART Wild Rag and some acrylic earrings, meet your girlfriends for brunch and pretend spring is here while sipping something colorful and fruity.

Cheers!

There is nothing more uplifting than a bright peacoat like this electric blue coat from JCrew.
Square scarves are the perfect versatile accessory to take your wardrobe from winter into spring. So many ways to tie them, including in your hair, or even on your purse for a bright twist. Try this AlanaKayART Wild Rag.
And of course…no outfit is complete without some fabulous earrings!

Warm Up Your Winter with Blue: Behind The World’s Most Popular Color

By | CMYKay

Tranquility – Loyalty – Creativity – Stability – Trust

The breathtaking hue of a Texas sky. The bright domes of the Greek Isles. The cobalt patterns on white Chinese pottery...

…and the playfulness of blue leather gloves.

Did you know many scientists believe humans could not see or identify the color blue until the Egyptians discovered how to transform the Lapis stone into a luxurious blue pigment that gradually became prized around the world?

The words “winter blues” may bring to mind a cold melancholy, but I’d like to show you some ways you can warm up with the color blue this February.

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF BLUE

Tranquility - Loyalty - Creativity - Stability - Trust

Whether robin’s egg or cobalt, the color blue is widely associated with feelings of calm. Both strong and relaxing, it is known to slow the heart rate, diminish the appetite and soothe the senses. Close your eyes and think of something blue and chances are you will picture the tranquil sky or the infinite sea.

For many, blue conjures up feelings of trust, strength, and loyalty. Navy blue lends the wearer authority and intelligence. No wonder it is the most popular choice for school uniforms. Lighter shades inspire creativity and peacefulness, confirming my belief that there should be a sky blue wall or fabulous piece of blue artwork in every home, school and church around the world. It’s also a great reminder of the benefits of getting outdoors and spending some time looking at the actual sky.

If you are wondering where the blue is for boys nonsense started, the gendering of color happened after the post-war baby boom when clothing manufacturers figured out they could make more money by marketing separate clothing for baby boys and baby girls. Like I said, nonsense!
