5 Tips to Create a Colorful Summer

Summer is here! With that comes pool parties, cookouts and a whole lot of family time and social gatherings. Time seems to slow and when it reaches 100+ here in Texas, I start to feel sluggish. While it may be tempting to take the summer wardrobe path of least resistance throwing on a plain white t-shirt and khaki shorts, don't do it! Beat the heat with COLOR. Throw your hair up into a bun and tie it with a Kaykerchief, trade your worn out t-shirt for a silk pool wrap and spice up your happy hours with beautiful cocktail glasses

5 Tips to Create a Colorful Summer

Scarves and headbands are all the rage right now! Tie a scarf around your messy beach hair or pony. It is an easy way to spice up a simple outfit if you’re in a rush to get out the door but still want to look fabulous. You can also tie these scarves around your neck for a colorful necklace and draw attention to your sun-kissed face. Add a flirty look to your favorite handbag by tying a KayKerchief around the handles. These small square scarves are an easy way to add a seasonal splash of color to your daily routine. Their bright colors instantly perk up an everyday outfit and can be the perfect addition to your favorite colorful ensemble.

Adding a pop floral color to the front of your house is the perfect way to add some major curb appeal this summer. Grab your family and take a trip to Archie’s Gardenland. Then spend a day unplugged planting flowers like pansies, hibiscus, hydrangeas and petunias--all perfect for Texas summers. Be sure to start early to beat the bloody Texas heat. If manual labor is not your gig, DFW friends can head over to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens to get your daily dose of Vitamin D, take in the beauty of the flowers and scenery, and catch a Concert in the Garden Photo Credit: Google Images - Petunias are naturally the 2019 Pantone Color of the Year, Living Coral!

Call your best girls and mix up a pitcher (or two) of your favorite summer cocktail. Right now I'm obsessed with Skinny Margaritas and my husband, Tim, happens to make the best in town. Follow his recipe below and pour into your colorful AlanaKayART glass and you’re set for a fabulous summer evening! One of my favorite things - enjoy! Tim's Skinny Margarita 4.5oz silver tequila (Herradura is preferred) 1.5oz Grand Marnièr Juice of 1 lime 1 Tbsp Agave Shake in cocktail shaker with ice and serve in your AlanaKayART glass Prefer your drinks alcohol free? Try this Strawberry Mule Mocktail on for size--all the benefits of the joy of color without the hard stuff.]

No one wants to throw on a pair of shorts or a top over their swimsuit - whether you’re not quite dry, or it’s the scorching heat, it’s just not a good look. That’s why I always opt for a quick pool-side wrap. It is light and practical - not to mention colorful and trendy - the best of both worlds! Whether I am in complete “do not disturb” mode or going “mom-crazy," it always makes me feel pulled together and glamorous. I also use the colorful acrylic trays as an easy way to transport drinks and snacks out to the pool! Photo credit: Madeline Edwards Photography; and my husband =)

Summer always reminds me of fresh watermelon by the pool and strawberries for breakfast! Head to the local Clearfork Farmers Market for the freshest seasonal fruits and vegetables to add color to your meals and fruit bowl! They are open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon and feature some of my favorite vendors. Photo credit: Clearfork Farmer's Market

I am a believer in the power of color. I see it every day as an artist, a designer and my self-proclaimed role as color evangelist. I have seen color reconnect people to themselves and others, empower women, and inspire joy. CMYK is the abbreviation for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and blacK. Combining those four colors allows us to create any color. Bright, dark, bold, subtle, neutral, neon — all of them. Over the past year, people continue to admire the bold colors and patterns used in AlanaKayART and tell me how great I look, but are concerned that they can’t pull off such vibrant colors. Challenge accepted. The goal of CMYKay is to educate you about color and empower you to incorporate it into your home and wardrobe in both big and small ways. It will challenge you creatively and encourage you to have fun with color in new and re-imagined ways, because friend, life in color is way more fun.
