For those of you that haven’t heard of BiG, they are an inspirational “out of the box” vocational community for adults with special needs in Georgetown, TX. They give their citizens the tools and guidance to create amazing goods to be sold in their high-end gift shop, café, and greenhouse. This beautiful organization has taken the status quo of working with adults with special needs and turned it on its head. This organization believes that these citizens have the talents to create marketable goods and give them the opportunity to help their Brookwood community while enjoying every day.
These amazing citizens have become bakers, gardeners, jewelry makers and I can tell you from experience there are artists among these citizens as well. While they worked with me for two days, pouring resin and sharing their creative ideas with me, I saw these citizens create amazing work. They did 90% of the pouring for these paintings and should be overwhelmingly proud of the finished product! You can read about the amazing citizens and their stories here [http://brookwoodingeorgetown.org/big-citizens/].
In two days we created 4 paintings together; four paintings that were then sold in their annual Art Auction which helps support the Brookwood in Georgetown organization. It still warms my heart when I think about how well those pieces did at auction. These four paintings raised almost $70,000 for the organization! I can’t wait to see all of the amazing things that BiG does in the future and I am so grateful to have been a part of this event and experience.
